The sarajevo tunnel (Lyrics/music: Marjan Debaene)

She was standing in the doorway of her shot-to-pieces-house

She was smiling proud with eyes on fire, she's never felt more alive than now

And I didn't understand a single word of anything she said

but for a moment I guess I understood how she felt

I was looking over a calm and empty plain of grass towards the airstrip

I was trying not to cry as I thought of how scared they must have been

If i' d been there ten years ago I swear I would have helped them dig

But I was only seventeen those days, oblivious and just a kid... playing gigs

The Sarajevo tunnel started here

Food, water, oil and guns brought into town from here

For years and years lives were saved from here

She’s lost her brothers, her husband and one of her sons

to booby traps  and snipers in surrounding hills shooting rifle guns

She is now seventy three and she still lives here

her memorial museum and her tunnel are her only legacy

The Sarajevo tunnel started here

Food, water, oil and guns brought into town from here

For years and years lives were saved from here

Solo

For years and years lives were saved from here
